Beyond The Pillars is an awesome indie video game production in Paris, France.
Artsy and narrative, their games are not your usual violent stuff, but rather combine gorgeous illustrations and narrative poetry with a hint of Nordic mythology (ever heard of the Volüspa ? Juan Melendez (left) was incarcerated in 1983 for a crime committed in Florida. Although he was in Pennsylvania at the time, and another man ultimately confessed to the murder, he was kept on death row for 17 years. Pure luck made a judge and a defense attorney discuss a box with a transcript of the confession in 2002.
Juan is now free and an advocate for “Voices for Justice”.
His lawyer, Marty McClain (right) is the other kind of lawyer. He spent his entire life working as a defense attorney in Florida on cases that everyone has abandoned, especially on death row. And his work contributed to revoking the use of the electric chair in the State of Florida.
As of November 3, 2009 there have been 139 exonerations in 26 different States.
